Highlights from CANENA AGM in Mexico City

EFC’s Gurvinder Chopra and several members took part in CANENA’s Annual General Meeting in Mexico City last month to address how the new trade agreement, USMCA, will affect our industry’s initiatives for the harmonization of standards between Canada, Mexico and the United States. At the AGM, group leaders also discussed best practices for standards harmonization, coordinated efforts for IEC standards, and shared insights on areas of growth.

CANENA is the Council for Harmonization of Electrotechnical Standards of the Nations of the Americas – a key organization that addresses harmonization activities for electrotechnical standards within the Americas and helps facilitate trade. Within CANENA, EFC plays an active role as Controller; our members also assume positions within the group: Guy Benjamin (ABB Canada) is the Country Vice President; Pierre Desilets (Leviton Canada) is Treasurer; and Don Harris (Northern Cables) is the Country Member-at-Large from Canada. As well, NEMA serves as CANENA’s Secretariat and CANAME (a Mexican association) is the acting Registrar. The next AGM will be held in 2021.
