Congratulations to the 2019 Atlantic Region College Scholarship recipients:
Michel Leblanc from Moncton, New Brunswick, a New Brunswick Community College, Moncton student in Electronics Engineering Technology.
Excerpt of Michel’s answer to “Why should you receive a bursary, scholarship or award?” question: ” I graduated from NBCC-Moncton in June 2014 from Sheet Metal Fabrication and three months after graduation I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Since then, I have been working with my therapists to try and return to my pre-accident condition, but the prognosis was that I would never be able to work in the trades. Therefore, I required a new career path and chose to embark in the field of Electronic Engineering Technologies, which I am currently in my second year. The program is designed to be a two-year program, yet due to my physical difficulties I was required to stretch out the program to three years.”
Weidong Mao from Quispamsis, New Brunswick, a New Brunswick Community College, Saint John student in Electronics Engineering Technology.
Excerpt of Weidong’s answer to “Why should you receive a bursary, scholarship or award?” question: ” Before I entered NBCC, I was working in the shipping business. As I moved to Canada, I found that they need Canadian experience. So, I decided to do something I loved and start over again. It is just like you lived twice. The course is not easy (Electronic Engineering), but this will not deter me. I worked and is still working hard to get to my goal.”
Both recipients received a scholarship fund of $1,000. (photos unavailable)
The 2018-2019 recipients of the Electro-Federation Canada Atlantic Region College Scholarships at Nova Scotia Community College are:
Congratulations to the 2019 Atlantic Region College Scholarship recipients:
John Hutt: Electrical Engineering Technology, Ivany Campus, 1st year, Graduating 2020
Provide us with an overview of: Why you chose your program/field of study; your career aspirations, and why you believe you will succeed in your chosen profession upon graduation.
“I am a first-year student in the Electronics Engineering Technology Program at the Ivany Campus of Nova Scotia Community College. I was drawn to the Electronic Engineering Technology program for three reasons. Firstly, I have always been interested in electronics. … Secondly, I wanted to choose a program that would utilize the skills I had already honed… Lastly, I wanted to find a program that would set the stage for a successful second career. I researched the job market, took career interest surveys, and did my homework. I learned that electronics engineering is thriving in Nova Scotia. Graduates from this well-respected program are gaining meaningful employment and are working in their chosen field with successful careers in our province. This was especially important to me as a mature learner; I knew I needed to invest in a future that would bear fruit for both me and my family.”
Hunter Orchieson: Electronic Engineering Technician, Marconi Campus, 1st year, graduating 2020
Hunter shares that he was grateful for this award as he has had a huge interest in electronics from a young age. He’s hoping to begin an apprenticeship in the electrical trade and use his education to work in the field of automation.
