CIO and EFC Join Forces to Improve the Cybersecurity & Competitiveness of Canada’s Manufacturing Sector

TORONTO, April 29, 2020 – The CIO Strategy Council (CIOSC) and Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) today announced a new partnership to support Canada’s electro-technical sector in the quest to digitize, standardize and improve cybersecurity. Through this partnership, EFC and CIOSC will support the advancement of the electro-technical sector’s transition to Industry 4.0 by collaborating on the following key areas:

  • Identifying gaps in digitization processes and standards that may be barriers to digital adoption as well as designing and implementing appropriate standards development strategies.
  • Sharing information on cybersecurity issues facing the electrical manufacturing sector to improve the security of digitized operations and supply chains through CIOSC’s Advisory Committee on Cybersecurity.
  • Designing and implementing a standardization strategy to improve the cybersecurity of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices used in manufacturing, installation, system integration and decommissioning.

“The partnership between the CIO Strategy Council and Electro-Federation Canada will help shape and advance the necessary standards and expertise needed to enable continued growth and modernization in Canada’s electro manufacturing sector,” said Keith Jansa, Executive Director of the CIO Strategy Council.

“The power of technology is fundamentally changing supply chain operations and production methods,” said Carol McGlogan, President and CEO of EFC. “Our partnership with CIO Strategy Council allows EFC to have a seat at the table and be involved in influencing IIoT standards development so our members can continue to lead the design, manufacturing, supply and servicing of these new devices for the Industrial automation market.”
