An unusual Quebec Golf tournament – August 19th 2024

August 19 was the Quebec Region golf tournament. It was a rather hectic event but equally enjoyable.

First, Mother Nature spoiled us a little too much with rain, which flooded the golf course at ElmRidge’s golf club. The team of volunteers and the golf committee had to get together in order to find a solution as quickly as possible since the decision was made, the golf tournament was cancelled.

In an instant, the organizing and volunteer team was scattered everywhere to change plans. The stations were to be closer to the main house. The Stanpro-sponsored pizza station and the Hammond-sponsored Mr. Puffs food truck were in front of the entrance, the Schneider-sponsored fruit station and the Desdowd-sponsored premium gyro and beverage station was on the Terrace. The IPEX-sponsored Mobile Drink Cart were located near the food stations at the entrance.

The reception was moved up to 12:45.

Jonathan Perlis, Stanpro, The Master of Ceremonies for the day took the floor to thank the sponsors, reassure members that the day is not lost and inform them of new procedures, new contests, to continue giving to the charity as well as inform them that the cocktail dinner will simply take place earlier!

Then, Martin Piette, IPEX, President of the Executive Committee of Quebec spoke to us about the organization Habitat for Humanity. Each year we hand out a cheque and collect money during the tournament for this charity. Given the circumstances, we did not issue a cheque for Habitat as members did not have time to donate during the day. Fortunately, Promellis and Desdowd had the great idea of encouraging members to donate to Habitat for a chance to win a $100 gift card (each).

The winners are:

Jason Prévost, Leviton and Jean-Felix Gaudreau, Hubble! Congratulations to the winners!

A total of $1,930 was raised for Habitat for Humanity that day.

Let’s continue by thanking Stéphanie Santini for joining us as quickly as she could to present the personality of the year 2023.

”He is a remarkable person whose impact on our industry over the past twenty years has been impressive. Since the beginning of his career, this individual has demonstrated a commitment to his or her work and community. He has been deeply involved in many EFC committees over the years, playing a critical role in advancing the Canadian and Quebec electricity industry. Almost ten years ago, this individual was one of the founding members of the Young Professionals Network. This person understood the importance of engaging and mentoring the next generation. This initiative not only fostered a sense of community, but also ensured a vibrant future for our industry. Our Personality of the Year had the vision to build an incredible community in our beautiful industry”

Jason Prevost, President at Leviton was awarded this title by his industry peers. Jason is a very involved member in the industry, EFC as well as the future of the new generation. It has inspired many young people in the industry to go above and beyond and appreciate the electrical industry.

Jason’s words following the award ceremony:

”Being recognized as the Person of the Year by EFC Québec is an extraordinary honour. When I undertook this journey more than twenty years ago, It was with a keen heart and dedication to making a significant impact. I never imagined such prestigious recognition would be given to me. My sincere gratitude goes to my peers, colleagues, mentors, family and friends. whose unwavering support has been invaluable. I am also grateful to the EFC Quebec region for their appointment and confidence in me. I look forward to the continued progress and success of our industry.”

Congratulations again to Jason Prévost!

Following this, we proceeded with the tournament games prizes. The majority of games could not be rescheduled as the games were cancelled with the tournament. Only the identified ball of Signify was given at the Reception. We decided to draw the prizes during the reception of the Montreal festivities among the members who will have used their Rain check given to each foursome by the Elm Ridges country club.

The winner of the ball identified Signify is: Jean-Francois Gravel, Leviton

Another donation was to be raised during the tournament, for the scholarship for the diversity and equity study of the youth network in the Quebec region. The committee had the brilliant idea of collecting unused alcohol tickets and exchanging them for a donation to the grant. Several gave their coupon at this issue. A total of $2,665 was collected!

Thank you very much to all members for your great generosity!

In terms of the representation of sponsors, we did our best to put the food and drink station sponsorships out into the open and get as many posters from the field as we could, But the ground was so flooded that some could not. Be reached. Two screens showed the sponsorship loops in the cocktail dining room where most of the participants were.

We are very happy to have seen that the majority of members stayed for the reception and cocktail dinner! Thank you very much for your loyalty and commitment to EFC. This is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to the ElmRidge Country Club staff for acting at an incredible speed to accommodate us and allowing us to have a day filled with smiles and networking in good company despite the situation.

It was a whole tormented day, However, the golf tournament team and all the volunteers worked very hard and showed great cooperation to turn this uncontrollable situation into an unbreakable and enjoyable event for everyone!
