“Supply Chain Risk Evaluation and Management (SCREAM) for Electrical Equipment Manufacturers and Distributors”
Supply chains face two fundamentally different types of risk: operational risks (e.g. lead time variability) and major disruptions, such as the ongoing pandemic. Supply chain risk evaluation and management (SCREAM) is about understanding exposure and vulnerability to possible disruptions. Exposure is an estimate of the likelihood a disruption will affect an organization. Vulnerability involves an assessment of the disruption’s impact. Understanding exposure and vulnerability to disruptions allows your organization to adopt a proactive versus reactive approach.
Using the COVID-19 pandemic as an example, this session covers all stages of the SCREAM framework. This pandemic is not the last major disruption your supply chain will face! Your organizations needs a tool to evaluate and manage future disruptions.
Questions that will be addressed include:
- What are the biggest risks or possible disruptions your supply chain faces?
- How does your organization typically respond to supply chain disruptions?
- What are your strategic alternatives for handling supply chain risk?
- Who are your stakeholders? What do they expect from you?
- What is your supply chain strategy? (Lean vs. agile; single vs. multiple sourcing; etc.)
- How exposed and vulnerable is your organization to supply chain disruptions?
Biography:
Dr. Paul D. Larson, Ph.D. is CN Professor of Supply Chain Management at the University of Manitoba. From 2006-2009, Dr. Larson led the team that developed and wrote a new C.P.P. curriculum for Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC), now Supply Chain Canada. During 2008, as Director of the University of Manitoba Transport Institute, he led a pandemic planning research team, yielding the report: Manitoba Nutrition Supply in Event of a Pandemic. This study inspired the Supply Chain Risk Evaluation and Management (SCREAM) framework. Later, Dr. Larson was lead author of a report titled Supplier Diversity in Canada: Research and analysis of the next step in diversity and inclusion for forward-looking organizations, published in 2016 by the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI). Dr. Larson lectures and conducts research on sustainability, supply chain risk management and supplier diversity. Pandemic preparedness and response are his renewed interests, inspired by the current COVID-19 pandemic.
