Rob McIntyre Set to Retire from EFC

EFC’s Product Sections is undergoing a change of guards: Rob McIntyre will retire from his position as VP, Technical Services, in the coming weeks. Gurvinder Chopra has stepped in as VP, Standards and Regulation, effective this week (appointment announcement to be included below). Rob will stay on at EFC for the next several weeks to provide support during this transitional period.

A group of industry peers celebrated Rob’s retirement in Toronto last week during a luncheon. We wish Rob best wishes in his retirement and thank him for his contributions in furthering EFC’s product sections and codes & standards efforts.

 

EFC Welcomes Claudia Hamza as Product Sections Manager

Claudia has been appointed to this role to cover Cherith Sinasac’s maternity leave. She is responsible for providing ongoing leadership to EFC’s Product & Distribution Sections to enhance their respective product sector position in the Canadian electrical marketplace. She will ensure all efforts are consistent with EFC’s mandated areas of sustainability, government and regulatory relationships and influence, product design and manufacturing safety, market research/statistics, communications, industry networking and codes and standards development.

Claudia has an engineering background in Aircraft Engineering (Avionics) from the University of Toronto. Before starting at EFC, she was as a Product Engineer at Creation Technologies, an electronics manufacturer. She brings with her experience working in a number of industries, including oil and gas, electrical and electronics, and medical equipment.

Since arriving in Canada from Romania in 2008, Claudia has completed an AutoCAD & Inventor Certificate from Centennial College, has taken Leadership training from Seneca College, Cathodic Protection Technician (NACE), has joined the Engineer-in-Training program from the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and is a member of the American Society of Quality (ASQ). She prides herself on being a team player, having a positive “can-do” attitude and business-focused approach, and having strong problem-solving and analytical skills. She strives for continuous professional improvement, which is abundantly clear with her vast work experience, the many courses she has taken and the certifications she has received over the years. In her spare time, Claudia enjoys painting, bike riding and spending time with her family.

EFC Welcomes Gurvinder Chopra as Vice President, Standards and Regulation

Effective, November 13th, Gurvinder has taken on the position of VP, Standards and Regulation at EFC, as Rob McIntyre approaches his retirement in the coming weeks. Gurvinder is responsible for leadership and management of all technical-related issues pertaining to EFC’s Product Sections, task groups and committees. Gurvinder will review, advise and influence the development of codes and standards in the best interest of EFC members and other stakeholders. He will ensure that appropriate action is taken on all proposed standards, reports or technical documents, which could affect the interests of members.  He will be maintaining and developing vital contacts and relations with other associations, standards development organizations, government representatives, members of the media and member companies.

Gurvinder comes from CSA Group, where he managed Industrial and Hazloc Operations in Canada, as well as cross-market programs consisting of services like Functional Safety, Global Market Access, Cyber Security, Inspections and Management Systems. Before joining EFC, he was Director of Global Accounts, looking after product certification and training needs of key global clients at CSA.

Gurvinder has a degree in Marine Engineering and has worked with companies like Lloyd’s Register & BSI (British Standards Institution) in their locations in India, UK, USA and Canada, managing the Operations and Business Development of Management Systems, Marine & Industrial certifications, and Quality, Safety & Risk Management system services for variety of industries and ships.

Gurvinder has an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from McMaster University, and has completed the Operations Management Certification program at Loyola University, Chicago. Gurvinder’s mission is to closely work with the manufacturing sector and the Government in Canada to focus on innovation and develop solutions for smart and sustainable cities, with an intent to grow manufacturing and the economy in this country.  Gurvinder’s passion is to establish and nurture relationships and connect with people.
